The size of United States federal debt has again been renewed to $3.45 trillion. Concerns about fiscal deficits, interest payments and long-term debt-servicing capacity have also risen, and analysts have called for measures to be taken as soon as possible to avoid a continued increase in the debt burden.

The scale of debt continues to climb.

The most recent data show that total United States Treasury debt has reached $34.5 trillion. This figure reflects the long-standing dependence of the federal Government on borrowing to sustain expenditure and highlights the continuing pressure for rising debt costs in a high interest rate environment.

Debt expansion is not a short-term phenomenon. In recent years, the fiscal deficit in the United States has remained high, with an increase in interest expenditure, which has contributed to the continued accumulation of debt. Market concerns are not just the debt stock per se, but also whether fiscal space will be further narrowed in the coming years.

The analysts are calling for quick action.

Analysts suggested that debt prospects could continue to deteriorate in the absence of timely fiscal adjustments. Concerns have centred on two main areas: the gap between government expenditure and revenue remains large, and the rising cost of financing is pushing up the debt-servicing burden.

In their view, delays in processing would only make subsequent adjustments more costly. As the debt base expands, even if interest rates are maintained in the current zone, the federal Government ' s annual interest expenditure may continue to increase, thus squeezing other budget lines.

Market focus on fiscal sustainability

The United States debt problem usually affects bond markets, dollar movements and overall risk preferences. For investors, debt expansion per se may not trigger market volatility immediately, but further deterioration of fiscal prospects may increase external concerns about long-term credit and budgetary stability in the United States.

At present, the market is still watching whether the United States Government will follow up with a clearer fiscal adjustment programme, as well as progress in congressional consultations on budget, taxation and expenditure. These factors will determine the continuation of debt pressures.
