The United States Senate voted procedurally on the Russian and Iranian bills
On 28 July, local time, the United States Senate passed a procedural vote on a bill aimed at sanctioning Russia and Iran by 86 votes in favour and 12 against. Under the terms of the Act, the United States will impose a 100 per cent secondary tariff on countries that continue to purchase Russian oil and gas. In addition, the bill introduced new provisions to extend the sanctions against Iran, which were due to expire at the end of this year, to ensure that the relevant sanctions remain in force.
