“No 50-50 points”, Iran vetoes Oman's Harmuz Regional Management Programme

On 29 July, an Iranian senior official stated that Tehran had rejected the Omani proposal for a joint regional management programme for the Strait of Hormuz, considering it unlikely to succeed. Iran rejects the participation of other countries in the management of the Strait of Hormuz and believes that only Iran and Oman can decide on the relevant arrangements based on their respective shares of the waters. Iran insists that all routes into the Straits of Hormuz and some of them must be under Iranian control. It is not in Iran ' s interest to have a joint management arrangement with Oman, although Tehran regards Oman as a valuable neighbour. The United States and Saudi Arabia are trying to put pressure on Oman to advance its unrealistic plans regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Kim Xian
