$282 million in bitcoin and Lettcoin stolen from Trezor for impersonating a fraud

On 2 August, on 10 January 2026, a Bitcoin and Lightcoin holder gave 12-word aid to the attacker who impersonated Trezor supporters, resulting in the transfer of approximately $282 million of assets, including approximately $139 million bitcoin and $153 million litco. Zero Shadow stated that the incident originated from a social engineering attack and was not an invasion of wallet software or private key infrastructure. The Zero Shadow surveillance team marked and frozen approximately $700,000 in 20 minutes. Under the BIP39 standard, 12 terminologies contain approximately 128 bits of entropy and 24 terms of assistive words contain 256 bits of entropy. Chainalysis estimates that the highest 23 per cent of the extracted bitcoin was permanently inaccessible due to the loss of the key, which involved millions of BTCs, including for forgetting the assistive words, the damage to the backup and the failure to arrange succession plans。
