THE UNITED STATES SENATOR HAS A MOTION TO DEBATE THE CIA BILL FOR A PROCEDURAL VOTE ON THURSDAY

The United States Encrypted Market Structures Regulation Act (CLARITY Act) is at a critical juncture this week, and political games in the next few days may determine whether the bill will gain sufficient momentum and eventually be adopted. According to Senate procedures, if members still wish to enter the August recess as planned, the Senate majority leader, Republican Senator John Thune, will be required to file a motion for debate (cloture) on Tuesday to arrange for a procedural vote on Thursday. On Monday, however, Türn indicated that the Senate might continue to meet until a number of pending matters, including interim Government appropriations, the Russian sanctions bill, nomination matters, the university sports bill and the procedural vote on the encrypted market structure bill, were completed. This means that at present the Republican Party is uncertain whether it will be able to obtain the 60 votes required to initiate the debate and to allow the amendment to be discussed。
