Data released on Tuesday, 11 August, by the Korea Customs Department, showed that South Korea ' s exports rose by 45.3 per cent from year to year in early August (1-10 August), driven by a surge in demand for global stocks of chips. The data show that South Korea ' s total exports from 1 to 10 August amounted to $21.3 billion, compared with $14.6 billion in the same period last year, up from a new level in early August of the calendar year. Imports increased by 23.1 per cent to $19.5 billion over the same period, with a trade surplus of $1.8 billion. By industry, driven by the global wave of artificial intelligence, the export of chips surged by 155.4 per cent to reach $9.95 billion, with strong growth. Chip exports accounted for 46.8 per cent of total South Korean exports at that time, representing an increase of 20.1 percentage points over the same period last year。
