On 15 August, Mark Ginsberg, former United States Ambassador to Syria and White House consultant, interviewed Al Jazeera, stated that the decision-making in Trump was driven primarily by domestic political pressure and mid-term elections, rather than by long-term strategies. “In the final analysis, Donald Trump will do what he has to do to save his political life and cope with declining domestic support rates before the midterm elections”, Ginsberg said. He noted that Tehran was well aware of internal political developments in Washington and was prepared to wage a protracted war. The Iranians were watching the polls in the United States, and the regime would survive until the last Iranian fell. They intend to hold on to power, no matter how much suffering the population suffers. Despite the growing “repulsion” of the American public to the status quo, Trump faced a dilemma and could not afford to admit failure. But Tehran is betting on a familiar script. The Iranians are basically holding Trump and the United States.
