Iran: Pakistan and Qatar are moving towards a de-escalation of the situation, and negotiations between the United States and Iran have not yet started
On 17 August, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baghae, stated that Pakistan and Qatar were making efforts to de-escalate the situation and that there were currently no other mediators. He claims that Iran and the United States have not initiated any negotiations because of the United States violation of the previously signed memorandum of understanding, which provides for a period for negotiations on the lifting of sanctions and nuclear issues, and that there is no so-called "60-day negotiating period". Baghae indicated that negotiations between Iran and Oman were still ongoing and that the parties were working seriously on a road map for maritime passage. Negotiations with Oman were lengthy because of the complexity of the issues, the involvement of a wide range of participants and the attempts of some countries to derail the process. At the same time, he stressed that Iran would not make decisions under time pressure and ultimatums. Kim Xian
