BITCOIN MINING COMPANIES HAVE INVESTED BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN THE AI FIELD IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR, WITH CAPITAL EXPENDITURE EXCEEDING INCOME BY 15 TIMES
On 21 August, according to Cointelegraph, the latest report of Blocks Bridge Consulting shows that nine listed Bitcoin mining companies spent $5.11 billion on AI and high performance (HPC) operating capital in the first half of 2026, while the related income for the same period was only $340 million, and the input output was about 15:1, highlighting the level of pre-investment required for the transition. Of the sample of 15 mining companies and AI Data Centre companies, total capital expenditure in the reporting period 2026 amounted to $30.7 billion, an increase of 42.6 per cent over the year 2025. Despite far-out investment, revenues from AI and HPC continued to grow at an accelerated pace, with nine mining companies growing in the second quarter by 52 per cent to $206 million, leading by Core Scientific, TerraWulf and Bitdeer. Blocks Bridge notes that, while mining companies have power and land advantages, conversion to AI-ready capacity requires significant inputs such as power transformers, cooling systems, network equipment and GPU。
