The Illinois encryption organization sued the new digital asset tax
On 21 August, the Illinois Block Chain Association and the Encryption Innovation Commission filed a lawsuit against Illinois for the prevention of a 0.2 per cent digital asset tax, scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2027. The case was brought before the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in Sangamon County, against David Harris, Director of the Illinois State Revenue Authority, Kwame Raoul, Attorney General, and John Millhaiser, State Prosecutor in Sangamon County. The case was the second industrial action against the Illinois encryption tax. The complaint stated that the tax violated the federal law on freedom of the Internet tax, holding that digital asset activities were not treated in a manner consistent with traditional financial transactions. The plaintiff sought the Court ' s decision that the Digital Asset Tax Act was null and void and requested a preliminary and permanent injunction to prevent Illinois officials from implementing or enforcing the Act。
