Some 678,000 people and business data were stolen, and French tax authorities were hacked or affected the physical security of Bitcoin holders

On 28 August, Bitcoin News wrote on platform X that France had revealed this month that its tax administration had been hacked and that some 678,000 individuals and businesses had been stolen. The stolen data allegedly included names, addresses, income and property information. An analysis of the alleged database found that 26805 records showed income in excess of Euro100,000, including 386 in excess of Euro1 million. According to CertiK data, France accounted for 33 of the 52 encrypted currency wrench attacks verified globally in the first half of 2026. The French prosecutor also accused an employee of the tax service of using the Government database to identify encrypted money investors and to sell personal information to criminals involved in physical assault and extortion. While the latest data leaks have not been publicly linked to physical attacks, the sensitive financial and location data of hundreds of thousands of people may no longer be controlled by the Government。
