President of Iran: The Strait of Hormuz must reopen the United States to meet its obligations

On 29 August, at local time, on 28 August, Iranian President Pizehiziang, in response to the ongoing negotiations with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, stated that the Omani side had initially supported Iran and had subsequently reserved its position, but that, at a recent meeting, the parties had once again reached consensus on reopening the channel of the Strait under a coordinated plan. He stressed that Iran was currently working to ensure that if the route was reopened under a specific framework, the United States would also have to meet its obligations. These include the lifting of the blockade and sanctions, the unfreezing of Iranian funds and the cessation of Israeli hostilities in Lebanon. At the same time, he mentioned that Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz on the basis of its own policy. “The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is within the framework provided for in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and has been accepted by the parties and must be implemented.” In addition, Pizehiziang indicated that Iran was developing a common vision on how to interact with its neighbours.
