Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iran: United States new sanctions have limited effect and do not affect new areas of the Iranian economy
According to the Iranian student news agency, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, Gambari, has stated, with regard to the US’s new sanctions against Iran, that even foreign media admits that US sanctions are unlikely to achieve their claimed effect. He stressed that sanctions would never succeed if they were aimed at forcing Iran to change policies based on law and public opinion. According to Gambari, given that the main areas of the Iranian economy are already under sanctions, the current round of measures will not involve new sectors of the economy, and the United States will focus on enhancing the effectiveness of the implementation of the existing sanctions, blocking the channels of circumvention and responding to counter-measures. At the same time, he reminded that the media were making a strong case for the impact of the sanctions, which required a high level of vigilance. Kim Xian
