Bessent: 10-year sovereign debt return surged and debt markets outperformed the world

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that since President Trump's reinstatement, the United States debt market had outperformed other markets around the world. However, his comments were at a time when the rate of return on the 10-year national debt had soared to its highest level in almost 20 months, and global bond sales had raised concerns about the recurrence of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. In a “Bookside Talk” with Larry Kudlow, the director of Fox Business Channel, Bercent said: “This is the best-performing debt market in the world's major countries.” The starting point of the analysis he had chosen had diluted the reaction of the debtor city to the tenure of President Trump. Bésente noted that the market anticipated future events and that investors began selling United States Treasury bonds before the chances of a Trump victory were priced. Nevertheless, at the G20 meeting of finance ministers, Becent stated that the United States debt market had performed at a moderate level over the past two years。
