Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran: strongly condemns the attack by United States forces on Iranian civilian infrastructure

On 3 September, local time, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning the United States military campaign against Iran, alleging that the United States had attacked various demilitarized zone areas and civilian infrastructure, such as terminals and communications facilities, in the provinces of Khuzestan, Sistan-Baluchistan, Hormuzgan and Kerman in the country, causing loss of life, injury and damage to property. The statement states that the attack by United States forces on a wedding site in Sirik district, Hormuzgan Province, resulted in the death and injury of more than 70 Iranians, most of them women and children. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, these actions are contrary to the fundamental principles of international law and international humanitarian law. The statement stated that the Iranian armed forces, in accordance with their right to self-defence under the Charter of the United Nations, had carried out “defensive and deterrent strikes” on United States military bases “as the starting point and logistical support for United States forces to attack Iran”. At the same time, the Iraqi side urges regional States to prevent the United States from using its territory and airspace to carry out military operations against Iran and calls upon the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations Secretary-General to fulfil their responsibilities to prevent further escalation.
