BEAUTY: THE WHITE HOUSE DOES NOT RULE OUT ACTION ON OPEN-SOURCE AI MODELS

On 15 July, a senior White House official, Semafor, reported in the United States financial media, stated on Tuesday that the Trump Government had left room for future administrative action to address the open source AI model. The official mentioned that, in addition to an executive order signed by Trump last month, the Government was carrying out “a great number of ongoing work”. The Executive Order established a voluntary review mechanism for the AI model. The head of the United States National Network, Sean Caircros, stated to journalists at a press conference launched by the Mechanism on 2 July that the order “also included open-source scanning and coordination mechanisms”. He added: “We cannot achieve the President's vision without protecting and strengthening our open-source ecosystems”. His remarks reflected the desire of the United States Government to strengthen the new open-source industry in the United States, which was increasingly afraid of being pushed over in competition. The recent proposal of a new framework for open-source AI models by enterprises, including Reflecting AI, to the Trump Government has given rise to speculation that the Government may issue executive orders or other relevant guidance documents.
