Kalshi suspended flights and cancelled the contract because of social media opposition

The decision by Kalshi, the predictive market platform, to suspend its latest product, the flight cancellation plan, stems from concerns among social media users about potential malicious acts. Users fear that some outlaws may cause confusion at the airport to obtain compensation. In addition, BrightAware, a well-known aviation tracking service, stated that Kalshi could not use its data to resolve those contracts. Kalshi had planned to cancel the contract on Wednesday to start the listing, but the company spokesperson indicated on Thursday that it had decided not to proceed for the time being. The contract applies to the cancellation within the airport, not to individual flights, and contains detailed rules prohibiting in-house personnel (including TSA agents and airport and trade union officials) from making bets. Nevertheless, skeptics have warned that airport staff may collaborate in the cancellation of flights or that the perpetrators may falsely alert the police to shut down air travel. Despite the ban on in-house betting, it is not clear whether concerns about the Kalshi flight contract are justified, especially in cases of severe criminal penalties for threats or pranks against the airport industry。
