US official: Trump will decide within days whether to expand the war against Iraq
On 21 July, according to Fox News, senior United States officials indicated that United States President Trump was expected to decide in the coming days whether to expand military operations against Iran and resume full-scale operations. The officials stressed that no final decision had yet been taken. Officials stated that if Trump ordered the resumption of full-scale military operations, their scale and intensity would be “longer” than the nine-night United States air strike that had begun on 7 July and continued; the previous air strikes had been directed primarily at Iranian military assets associated with operations around the Strait of Hormuz. An official also confirmed that the United States forces had largely avoided targeting targets near Tehran or Iranian nuclear facilities. “If full-scale war operations were resumed, the situation could change”, said the official.
