Twenty-five States sued the Trump government against linking disaster funding to electoral system reform

On 24 July, 25 states of the United States and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit with the Federal Court of Rhodes Island Local Time on 23 July to prevent the Trump Government from linking some of the disaster emergency funds to the state changes in the electoral management system. The United States Department of Homeland Security had previously announced that conditions would be placed on the part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) totalling over $1 billion. If the cantons do not submit a plan to switch to an electronic voting system based on a bar code or a two-dimensional counting system for the receipt of handwritten paper ballot papers, the release of 20 per cent of the relevant funds will be suspended。
