Trump threatened to impose retaliatory duties on the EU

United States President Trump 24 stated that the United States Government would launch a trade investigation into the European Union and threatened to impose a tariff on the Union in retaliation for the substantial fines imposed by the European Union on the United States Science and Technology Corporation. Trump wrote on the social media platform “real socialization”, accusing the European Union of “robbering” American businesses and United States taxpayers for its recent decision to fine Google. He warned that the EU would pay a “heavy” price for its actions, “we expect to impose high tariffs on it (EU) as soon as possible”. According to Trump, the United States will immediately initiate an investigation against the EU under section 301 of the Trade Act 1974. This provision empowers the United States Government to investigate what it considers to be an unfair burden on United States enterprises and to impose customs retaliation measures.
