The political test of the Bulkerbitcoin strategy in El Salvador with the emergence of opposition candidates for the 2027 general elections
On 28 July, it was reported by BeInCrypto that the two main opposition parties in El Salvador had officially nominated candidates for the presidential elections in February 2027: the Union des républicains (ARENA) for former Member of Parliament Maytee Iraheta and the Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) for doctors and union leaders Rafael Aguirre. Both candidates clearly rejected the Bulker Bitcoin strategy and characterized it as a financial failure. However, the support rate in Brkel is still high at 94 per cent, and its New Thoughts Party has completed its nomination, with a clear advantage for re-election. It is worth noting that El Salvador cancelled its status as a legal currency of bitcoin in February 2025, following a loan agreement of $1.4 billion with the IMF, and that the United States dollar was re-established as the only official currency, but the Government maintained its plan to purchase one bitcoin per day, reaching approximately 7,730 Bitcoins by 27 July。
