Oman proposes to Iran the Strait of Hormuz management programme: co-management of the region, voluntary user funding
On 28 July, Reuters reported that sources in the Gulf region had proposed to Iran the establishment of a common regional mechanism for the management of the Strait of Hormuz with voluntary fees. The programme proposed by Oman has received regional support. The programme is based on the Malacca Strait model, whereby parties involved in the use of the Strait make voluntary contributions for navigational security, environmental protection, search and rescue operations, etc. Under this programme, Iran will not control the Strait of Hormuz alone.
