Tata electronic disclosure and some of its systems have seen recent cyber security incidents. According to security researchers, a extortion software organization called World Leaks has published over 200,000 documents on the net that appear to be from Tata electronics, containing apples and Tesla-related information.
Apple is investigating the incident.
According to Reuters, apples have investigated this. One informed source stated that the analysis was still ongoing and that Tata Electronic had received extortion requests in connection with the incident. Tata Electronic did not comment on the demand for extortion.
In its statement, Tata Electronics stated that the company had discovered the network security incident several weeks earlier and had immediately started the response process, and that the current operations were not affected.
Darknet files relate to design and employee information
Two security researchers who reviewed the data indicated that the documents had been available on the dark web since at least 10 June. According to World Leaks, the total number of relevant data exceeds 630 GB and the number of documents exceeds 200,000.
According to the researchers, the leaks included suspected apple component designs, material specifications, factory data catalogues, and copies of mail, incident logs and some employee passports related to the multi-year operation of tower electronics. Information on foreign workers is also included.
In the Apple-related directories, some folder names have the words “com.apple.factorydata” and documents refer to material specifications and quality tests. A number of other documents relate to the Hosur factory in Tamil Nadu, India, which is one of the main iPhone assembly bases for tata electrons.
The Tesla project file was also named.
It was also reported that Tata electronics also produced spare parts for Tesla. The Darknet database contains a folder marked “NV36Chargeport Contractor-North America”, which is suspected to correspond to an upgraded Model Y component.
Another 2023 document, labelled “TRADE SECRET”, is suspected to relate to Tesla Project Highland. This is the internal code for Tesla's Model 3. Tesla has not responded to the request for comment.
