Vitalik Buterin updated the Ethereum Road Map this week. This version is considered to be the most systematic re-construction scenario since Merge, with the goal not only of expanding but also of reducing operating costs, enhancing privacy and enhancing protection against quantum computing risks.
There was general support for the road map
From the public feedback, there is little disagreement about the overall direction of the study community. The focus of the discussion was not “do it or not”, but “how long to finish”. This means that there is a strong intra-ecological consensus around the priorities of privacy, expansion and a new generation of cryptography.
Buterin ' s content for this update relates to consensus mechanisms, the foundation of passwords, data storage structures, and the chain-to-trading experience of ordinary users. Compared to the first edition, released in February, the version has been restructured and, as a result, a number of researchers quickly responded individually.
Disputes are concentrated in 3-4-year cycles
StarkWare co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson gave a positive overall assessment of the road map. In particular, he is sure that the retrogression of STARKs is placed at a more central level and supports the high priority given to the security of the antiquator.
However, he clearly questioned the timetable, arguing that three to four years were “too long” and that, in particular, there should be no long delay in the preparation of quantum safety. He also noted that the description of the “state” of the new block chain in the road map was still unclear and that communities needed more explanation to judge which developers, users and infrastructure providers would be affected by such changes.
A similar view was expressed by Dankrad Feist, a former researcher of the ITA Foundation, but the position was more radical. He found the road map scenario itself attractive, including the eventual confirmation of near-immediate transactions and higher throughput, but the development cycle remained slow. He suggested that, if the community was sufficiently active, there was an opportunity to do so within about one year.
AI tools are considered speed options
Feist also mentioned that recent AI tools, especially large language models, may help to compress the development cycle. While this judgement remains at the scenario level, it reflects the rising demand for speed of implementation within the Taifung research community.
Barnabé Monnot, a researcher at the Etherwood Foundation, compared the changes in the early February version to the current week's update with the difference. He noted that a number of upgrades aimed at expediting the outlet had been placed in a more backward position, while the related adjustments for the consensus layer had been advanced. This reordering may lead to more early identification of more rapid transactions and greater resistance to censorship.
Meanwhile, some of the functions previously proposed have been removed from the new version of the road map. As currently discussed in public, this is more like a simplification of the upgrading path than a mere postponement of complex issues.
Overall, this discussion reflects not a split of routes, but a struggle for a rhythm. For the Ether Workshop, researchers are now more concerned about the possibility of faster conversion of already defined objectives into operational codes. This will also affect their place in the public-chain competition in the coming years.
