UNITED STATES CFA: U.S. ENCRYPTION FRAUD LOSSES ESTIMATED AT $80.7 BILLION IN 2025

On 29 July, according to Detrypt, a report published by the American Consumers Federation (CFA) indicated that the damage caused by United States encrypted currency fraud in 2025 was estimated at $80.7 billion, about seven times the amount actually reported by the FBI ($11.37 billion). CFA calculates the unreported losses by 7.1 multipliers, based on data from the Department of Judicial Statistics survey conducted in 2017. Of that total, investment fraud was the largest single category, with an estimated loss of $61.4 billion, an increase of 32 per cent over the same period; losses were particularly severe in the group over 60 years of age, with a single loss of $4.4 billion for encrypted fraud alone. The United States law enforcement agencies have now taken a number of actions, including the FBI's Operation Level Up\ operation, which has stopped losses of about $500 million, and the Department of Justice has seized over $25 million in fraudulently encrypted assets。
