A former OpenAI researcher's al-fundSitunational Awareness sought new funding to inject after the market collapsed

On 30 July, according to the British Financial Times, Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former 25-year-old OpenAI researcher, was seeking a new infusion of funds from the United Kingdom ' s public investment fund, after a significant reversal of the AI-related stocks had led to a significant loss to the Fund. In recent communications, Aschenbrenner acknowledged increased market volatility, while describing it as a new investment opportunity and encouraging investors to invest new funds by 1 August. The Fund's retrenchment of the AI data centre, power, storage and GPU cloud-related markers fell significantly in this round of AI capital expenditure trade retreat. The Fund was established in 2024, at a time of approximately $20 billion in size, with a net return of 439 per cent as of June 2026 and leverage to magnify the warehouse. The quarterly 13F document showed that it held a position of right to see-down, but it had only a warehouse photo on 31 March and could not judge the current state of the hedge. This round of fund-raising is seen as a landmark event in the decline in AI capital expenditure transactions and the market is revisiting the return cycle and leverage risk of the AI industry chain。
