Several banks are negotiating a $15 billion loan to the Anthropic data centre, with Google support for the project

On 31 July, according to the Wall Street Journal, informed sources revealed that a data centre developer working with Anthropic was conducting in-depth consultations on borrowing $15 billion for the construction of a large data centre campus and power plant in Texas, for which Google would provide financial guarantees and chips. Under the agreement under discussion, a consortium led by Morgan Stanley will provide $15 billion in loans to Nexus Data Centers for the construction of the park in Hubbard, Texas. The park will be equipped with a self-owned gas power plant capable of generating 1.6 gW of electricity. This deal is likely to be announced at the earliest today. According to informed sources, Google has guaranteed the multi-billion dollar rental and electricity payment obligations of Anthropic in order to help Nexus raise debt financing in case of default by the original company. One of the resource persons, however, indicated that Google support was limited in scope and covered only the minimum amount that banks needed to complete their financing. These guarantees cover the four data centre lease contracts that Anthropic has signed, as well as the corresponding power purchase agreements, which will be supplied by the plant in the park to which it is provided。
