FBI agents are accused of stealing about $1 million of encrypted assets and planning the use of ChatGPT funds and departure

On 4 August, an FBI agent, Patrick Yaroch, was arrested last Friday on suspicion of stealing approximately $1 million of encrypted assets from a hostile encrypted account. According to the affidavit submitted on 1 August, Yaroch is suspected of having moved assets since the end of 2024 or early 2025. Yaroch indicated to the investigators that he had found some keys that enabled him to transfer the funds in the digital wallet to himself. He claims to be frustrated that he could not further prevent the use of encrypted currency by persons associated with “enemy countries” and has made about a dozen transfers. According to a Ministry of Justice document, Yaroch admitted to a Ministry of Justice employee that he had “made some very bad decisions” on the issue of encrypted wallets. In another federal agent interview, he also admitted that he “broken”. Yaroch was a special surveillance agent for the FBI's counterintelligence and espionage unit, and he worked for the FBI's Boston branch. The FBI fired him on July 31st. The investigation also stated that Yaroch mixed personal funds with encrypted assets and used ChatGPT to ask how to deal with those funds, including how to spend or invest $1 million, and whether to leave the United States for a European country。
