Analysis: Trump will not accept Iran ' s control of the Strait or seek a military symbolic victory against the mid-term elections

On 7 August, Robert Peppe, Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, in an interview with Al Jazeera, further analysed that, given the repeated attitude of United States President Trump following the signing of the memorandum of understanding with Iran on 17 June, he would not accept any agreement that would lead Iran and Oman to jointly control the Strait of Hormuz. According to Peppe, “Trump's position will waver.” He added: “I think Trump can only accept Iran and Oman to control the Strait of Hormuz for one or two days at most.” He added: “Trump needs a symbolic victory as the mid-term elections approach.
