OpenAI slowed down the release process because of the Astra model's network security capabilities

On 8 August, it was reported that OpenAI had indicated that it could not be ruled out that its upcoming model, Astra, had “critical” network capability, which had prompted OpenAI to expand security testing and suspend internal activities that did not meet stricter security requirements. This is the latest sign of a rapid increase in the capability of the artificial intelligence model network. OpenAI stated that, after an internal assessment of Astra, one of the upcoming models, “we cannot rule out its critical network capacity”. Prior to the release of Astra, OpenAI will expand the testing and security measures for the model and slow the development of Astra until appropriate safety measures are in place, as required by the “Preparation Framework” first issued by the company in 2023. OpenAI further states that Astra was not involved in the Hugging Face breach attack.
