THE EUROPEAN CENTRAL BANK ASKED BANKS TO SUBMIT PLANS TO COUNTER THREATS TO THE SECURITY OF THE AI NETWORK
On 7 July, the European Central Bank requested the Bank to develop plans to respond to the growing threat to cybersecurity posed by front-line AI models such as Claude Mythos in Anthropic. In a letter from the ECB to the chief executive officers of banks, the chief regulatory officer of the ECB, Claudia Boucher, requested the lending institutions to submit an action plan by the end of October. She urged banks to speed up software patches, strengthen AI-driven network defences and strengthen the regulation of third-party suppliers, while modernizing their infrastructure in the long term. “The ECB calls on key institutions to immediately assess the impact of the evolving threat situation and to develop a comprehensive action plan outlining specific measures to strengthen related controls.” Last month, ECB President Lagarde warned that artificial intelligence could lead to a financial crisis and said that the Bank ' s CEO needed to ensure that he was prepared and recognized that the response required significant investment. The ECB has tested 109 banks for cyberattacks under serious circumstances, and most of the weaknesses identified have been addressed。
