TWENTY-FIVE TECH GIANTS SIGNED AN OPEN LETTER, AND THEY'RE WORKING ON AN OPEN WEIGHT AI MODEL

On 24 July, 25 United States technology companies, including IBM (IBM.N), Meta Platforms (META.O), NVDA.O, Microsoft (MSFT.O), signed an open letter calling for an open-power and weighting AI model. The open letter states that open source weight models are essential for a healthy AI ecosystem. The United States faces an open weight option in the area of artificial intelligence. It is true that there are real and unique risks to open weight models. In fact, however, openness may be one of the most important ways to achieve security and safety in AI. Relying on closed models alone is not safe: they can be broken, misused or rendered ineffective in an externally undetectable manner. Open weight models allow wider communities of researchers and developers to examine their behaviour, identify loopholes, develop protective measures and improve them over time. Kim Xian
