Google was informed of a commitment of $44 billion to guarantee the rental of data centres
On 29 July, according to The Information, Google (GOOG.O) disclosed last week that it had agreed to assume a lease of up to $44 billion in third-party data centres in the event of a tenant default. This figure represents an increase from $6.5 billion by the end of September and reflects Google ' s efforts to provide companies such as Anthropic with their alternative solution to the British Wida Ai chip. According to the information received, Google has undertaken these commitments, known as “back-up guarantees”, to expand its sales of TPU. Two sources revealed that Google undertook these commitments on the basis of the assumption that the revenue from TPU sales would exceed the financial obligation to guarantee the rental of data centres that would house the chips. One of them indicated that the company ' s executive was convinced that this financial measure would be beneficial to Alphabet. It was reported that Alphabet had provided lease guarantees for a total of approximately 2.4 gigawatts in approximately 10 projects. These projects are not currently completed, which means that Alphabet ' s guarantee measures have not yet entered into force。
