Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran: Proposed negotiations with Oman on the temporary route of the Strait of Hormuz

On 29 July, according to the Iranian Tasnim news agency, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran indicated that he had offered to negotiate with Oman on the temporary route of the Strait of Hormuz. If agreed, the route would replace the current North-South route. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran stated that the Omani side had indicated that a 50 per cent Iranian-controlled and 50 per cent Omani-controlled channel should be designed. We say that this will not address Iran's concerns. We state that access routes should be entirely controlled by Iran and that part of the route should also be controlled by Iran. If they accept this arrangement, we will move on to the next stage. We will never recognize the southern channel of the Strait of Hormuz, even for an hour. If the Omani side does not accept Iran ' s proposal for the Strait of Hormuz, it will remain closed and we are ready to resume war. Under no circumstances do we recognize the southern channel of the Strait. Our proposal is that one channel of the Strait must be entirely under Iran ' s control, as should part of the other.
