On 28 August, Bitcoin News wrote on platform X that France had revealed this month that its tax administration had been hacked and that some 678,000 individuals and businesses had been stolen. The stolen data allegedly included names, addresses, income and property information. An analysis of the alleged database found that 26805 records showed income in excess of Euro100,000, including 386 in excess of Euro1 million. According to CertiK data, France accounted for 33 of the 52 encrypted currency wrench attacks verified globally in the first half of 2026. The French prosecutor also accused an employee of the tax service of using the Government database to identify encrypted money investors and to sell personal information to criminals involved in physical assault and extortion. While the latest data leaks have not been publicly linked to physical attacks, the sensitive financial and location data of hundreds of thousands of people may no longer be controlled by the Government。

OCC AND FDIC TO CLARIFY BANK REGULATIONS, LINKING PRACTICES TO ILLEGAL OR SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL RISKS

On 28 August, Fox Business encryption journalist wrote on platform X that the U.S. Monetary Supervisory Agency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation were moving forward to finalize a rule defining “unsafe or unsound practices” in bank supervision. The term has not been clearly defined for many years and relies mainly on the extensive discretion of bank examiners. According to the rule, when the regulator determines that the practice is “unsafe or unsound”, it must be linked to the actual offence or significant financial risk, thereby reducing the likelihood of pressure being exerted on banks serving legitimate clients, including encryption companies, with vague reputations or procedural issues. The rule marks another important step towards the further elimination of Operation Breakpoint 2.0。

Kalibaf fights against Becent: Your credibility is at stake

On 28 August, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Kalibaf, wrote in social media against the United States Treasury Secretary, Becent, and quoted the New York Times report that the credibility of his debt market was being tested. The reason for this was that Becent had previously criticized the Iranian Government in social media. He stated that, at a time when the Iranian people could not afford even basic necessities, “the corrupt Iranian regime continues to squander huge amounts of money abroad”, rather than sending billions of dollars to so-called “terrorist agents”, it would be better to spend it on its own people. Kalibaf then responded in almost the same sentence: instead of investing huge sums of money in Israel, the “terrorist agent” and the United States of America's approximately 750 military bases around the world, the “defeating empire” could well spend it on its own people. “But forget it, it may be too reasonable for this regime.” Then he said, "Scott, man, your credibility is at stake. Let's get to work. According to that report, Becent tried to reduce the rate of return by, inter alia, expanding long-term United States debt buy-backs, but the market responded evenly. The ability and personal credibility of the United States to “train” the debt market is increasingly being tested against a backdrop of US debt of up to $40 trillion, and the situation in Iran is exacerbating inflationary pressures。

Kalibaf Besent's credibility is at stake and funds should be used for the American people

Iran's Speaker of Parliament, Kalibaf, wrote in social media to counter US Treasury Secretary Besent and quoted the New York Times report that the credibility of the United States debt market was being tested. Becent had previously criticized the Iranian Government for sending billions of dollars to its agents, and Kalibaf had responded that the United States should spend some 750 military bases in Israel and around the world to its own people. He stated that the credibility of Becent was at stake and suggested that it should do something. According to the New York Times, the ability and personal credibility of the United States to tame the debt market was tested by the US debt of $40 trillion and by inflationary pressures, while Becent tried to reduce the rate of return by expanding long-term United States debt buy-backs。

For the first time in three weeks, the United States mortgage rate rose to 6.66 per cent over a 30-year period

On 28 August, United States mortgage interest rates rose for the first time in three weeks, further crushing housing affordability at a time when the real estate market was weak. Equities data show that the average interest rate on fixed mortgages for a 30-year period rose slightly from 6.65 per cent in the previous week to 6.66 per cent, up from 6.56 per cent a year earlier. Since the beginning of this year, the United States real estate market has continued to be depressed, with mortgage interest rates having temporarily collapsed by 6 per cent before the outbreak of the Middle East conflict at the end of February, but has remained above 6.5 per cent since July, with little sign of a fall in financing costs. According to Thomas Ryan, a senior North American economist at the Cayes Macro, “high interest rates continue to stagnate markets”, and if interest rates eventually fall to around 5 per cent, the depressed demand may be released significantly, but it is not clear in the short term what factors will drive interest rates down to this level. Sales for new homes in the United States dropped to a low of six months in July, and contract sales for new single homes decreased by 10.5 per cent, with an annual replacement rate of 607,000, down from the market target of 620,000。
