Benchmark's partner questioned Anthropic's push to limit distillation

On 3 August, Benchmark partner Chetan Puttagunta wrote on platform X that it was confusing that Anthropic had publicly called for greater regulation of the distillation of the AI model, saying that Anthony was currently a company that valued about $1 trillion with substantial technical and financial resources, and that, on the scale described, the so-called “large-scale distillation attack” should theoretically be easier to identify and trace, and that if Anthropic chose to limit the behaviour in question, the real cost might not be inadequate technical capacity but to abandon part of the API income. “The only cost to be incurred appears to be a reduction in the related API operating income.”
